Background of Two Mass Killers
Cho Seung-Hui, the killer who murdered 32 students and faculty members at Virginia Tech and wounded 29 others was, in the words of MSNBC (4/17/07), "a South Korean immigrant in the United States for 14 years . . . who held a green card signifying his status as a legal permanent U.S. resident."
Cho's rampage on April 16th, came two months after the massacre committed by another foreign national, Sulejmen Talovic. On February 12th, Talovic, a Muslim refugee from Bosnia, killed five people at Salt Lake City's Trolley Square shopping center and wounded four others. Police Chief Chris Burbank said he would have shot many more if it had not been for the timely intervention of Ken Hammond, an off-duty police officer from Ogden, Utah. Goode Resolution Opposes SPP
Rep. Virgil Goode (R-VA) has introduced H.C.R. 40, a measure condemning the Security and Prosperity Partership (SPP), an understanding between the United States, Mexico and Canada which points toward a merger of the three countries along the lines of the European Union. H.C.R. 40 has 16 co-sponsors.
In an exclusive interview with Americans for Immigration Control, Goode said, "[The SPP] would definitely undermine the sovereignty of our country and would lead to an open borders approach with Canada and Mexico. We already have too many flooding in from Mexico. The invasion must stop if we are to survive as a leader of the world." The full interview will appear in the June/July issue of Immigration Watch.
The house and senate of Montana and Idaho have passed resolutions opposing the SPP. Fifteen other states have considered similar resolutions.
Survey Reveals Concerns
A recent survey by NBC/Wall Street Journal pollsters asked Americans what their greatest national concerns were. The top three were 1) Americans without health insurance (35 percent). 2) Declining moral values and standards (27 percent). 3) Failure to control illegal immigration (25 percent).
